This is the year of the Lennons. After a dozen TV seasons singing exclusively on THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW, the lilting Lennon Sisters are now happily swinging out on their own. With innumerable club appearances. With a bright, new television series, JIMMY DURANTE PRESENTS THE LENNON SISTERS, on ABC-TV. And, especially to the point here, with exciting and extremely listenable hit records.

The story of how the quartet landed its first major TV appearance has already taken its place in show biz chronicles. A schoolmate of Diane Lennon's believed so strongly in the girls' talents that he forced his flu-ridden father into an unavoidable audition at home. The father, Lawrence Welk, was so impressed by what he saw and heard that he featured the young girls (their ages ranged at the time from 11 to 16) on his Christmas Eve broadcast. The audience took it from there. A month later, the singing Lennons were Welk regulars.

Ever since, the lovely girls have been captivating televiewers and music lovers everywhere with their individual and unique song style. They have literally grown up before our eyes. And, at the same time, their voices have achieved a maturity that our ears can and do appreciate.

The sparkling selections they've chosen for this Mercury-Wing album are straight from the pop charts. Like the smash hits, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Elusive Butterfly." The Lennons bubble over with the bright though that "What The World Needs Now Is Love" and project a rare wistfulness in the modern classic "California Dreaming." There is the determined "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," the exciting "Green Tambourine" and many other splendid songs that make this the best show you'll turn on in your living room tonight.
