The millions of people who watch the Lawrence Welk show, together with the additional millions who have bought his records, are well aware that Lawrence is a great believer in variety, in doing the unusual and unexpected. Witness his hit records during the past year or two: Calcutta, Last Date, Yellow Bird, and now Baby Elephant Walk. Each of these is distinctly different from the others in sound, in arrangement and in rhythm.

One of the most unusual is the Baby Elephant Walk, Lawrence's latest smash hit single. Written by the famous Henry Mancini, it plays a prominent part in a key scene from the exciting Paramount picture "Hatari." It's off-beat rhythmic punctuations, its use of the calliope, and above all its clever and charming melody, with a humorous use of blues harmonies, make it one of the most distinctive pieces of music ever written for motion pictures. The Welk treatment of this outstanding material performs the necessary magic to transform it into a hit record.

This album of great selections is the second which Lawrence Welk has issued this year bearing a Hank Mancini song as its title piece. The other was "Moon River" DLP 3412.
