In this sparkling new album, Alice Lon - popular "Champagne Lady" of Lawrence Welk's weekly television programs - sings a collection of TV favorites.

Miss Lon, first introduced by Welk as "Alice from Dallas," began singing, dancing and playing the piano at six. By the time she was ten, the precocious young songstress was appearing on her own sponsored radio shows. In her teens she began touring her native Texas playing theaters, veterans' hospitals and army camps until she was signed by Interstate Theaters in Dallas. Appearing on the Interstate circuit, she also starred on its weekly radio show, "Showtime," emanating from the Palace Theater in Dallas.

While touring for Interstate, she was invited to appear on Don McNeil's famous "Breakfast Club" in Chicago, an engagement that was to be the first of a great many TV appearances in that area.

Singing for a local radio station with her husband, Bob Waterman, some time later, Alice became interested in Lawrrence Welk's search for a new "Champagne Lady." As we all know, the search ended the minute Alice Lon stepped up to the band stand of the Aragon Ballroom and sang in the same captivating voice and style that has delighted millions of televiewers and makes this album an outstanding listening treat.

Lennon Sisters

When we were children, some of the first songs we sung in harmony were hymns in our school and church choirs.

On Christmas of 1955 we made our television debut on the Lawrence Welk show singing the inspirational "He."

Through the years we have continued to include many of our favorite Religious songs in our repetoire.

We sincerely hope these selections we love will also inspire you to feel Christ's Love + Peace.

May God bless you -
the Lennon Sisters

Kathy, Dianne, Janet, Peggy.

"All of the wonderful things that have happened to me in my lifetime more than justify my strong belief in our American system, and my faith in our country's great future - the future of a beautiful community and a wonderful country which has given me so much morethan Iever dreamed of achieving."

With those feelings toward America, it's not surprising that Lawrence Welk has readily agreed to join with the United States Navy and lend his name and his talent to this radio series.

The Lawrence Welk Show comes your way direct from Hollywood as a public service of the Navy and your local Navy Recruiter. Each fifteen minute program brings to your listeners some of America's favorite music - the "Champagne Music" of the Lawrence Welk orchestra. Along with the very best in musical entertainment each program includes a brief message reminding your listeners of theopportunities the Navy is offering young people today.

We hope that you and your listeners enjoy the Lawrence Welk Show as much as we in the Navy are enjoying our association with America's favorite music maker ....Lawrence Welk.

Diane, Peggy, Kathy, and Janet Lennon are four girls blessed with a bounty of talent-beauty, brains, charm, personality, and perfect pitch-and their musical expertise enables them to transform any get-together into a very special occasion. The affection and respect they enjoy in the entertainment world are acknowledged by one and all.

No stranger to success himself, Lawrence Welk is the man who introduced the Lennon Sisters to the musical public, and has remained their warm admirer ever since. With his steady hand rhythmically waving the baton, his toes tapping out that distinctive bouncy beat, the affable maestro from the Midwest provides perfect musical backing to the lyrical Lennons.

The songbag of favorites in this great album includes popular classics like Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah, Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo and Allegheny Moon, as well as some special Lennon succeses such as Tonight You Belong To Me, Graduation Day, and He.

Here you have it: Lawrence, the Lennons, lifting melodies...and it all adds up to one of the most sparkling musical treats. Just lean back and let your thoughts roam...they're sure to follow quickly upon the enchanting mood set by these delightful music-makers.

A popular favorite since he began his broadcasting career more than 40 years ago, Lawrence Welk turnsto the Broadway stage for most of the music offered in this album. The familiar songs of Richard Rodgers and Hammerstein account for four of the selections. In addition to "You'll Never Walk Alone," from "Carousel" Lawrence Welk and his Champagne Music Makers perform "People Will Say We're in Love" from "Oklahoma," "Getting To Know YOu" from "TheKing and I" and the title song of "The Sound of Music." Other songs from Broadway in this collection are "Where or When" from Rodgers and Hart's "Babes in Arms," "September Song" from Knickerbocker Holiday" by Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson, and "People," from the Bob Merrill-Jule Styne "Funny Girl," which has been transformed into a contemporary standard by Barbra Streisand, who is repeating her portrayal of the late Fannie Brice in the film version of the show. Completing the album are three more favorites: "Little Things Mean a Lot," and two film songs: "To Each His Own" and "Be My Love." All the tunes receive the patented Lawrence Welk treatment, which has whisked him from a Yankton, S.D. radio broadcast in 1925 to his lifetime contract at the world famous Hollywood Paladium and his long-run weekly ABC-TV program.

EVERYBODY likes the scintillating rhythms of Lawrence Welk and His Champagne Music. And whether it's music for dancing or just easy listening, that sparkling beat is as contagious as the smile of the Maestro himself.

Seen and heard by millions from coast to coast every Saturday night, Welk's orchestra is as popular with the older folks as it is with the teenagers. His music packs them in by the thousands from hundreds of miles around at Ocean Park, California's famous Aragon Ball Room where the band has been playing since 1951. Some people even come to the dances in wheelchairs, and as one of them exclaimed, "It's just what the doctor ordered!"

A recent issue of TV Guide Magazine says that Welk's music appeals to the most important member of the family - Mother. And that when Mom is happy the whole family is happy. We might go a step further and say that it's music Mother likes best.

The Lawrence Welk story is not one of an overnight success. Although he has been a name band leader since 1938, the sparkle has come about somewhat gradually. Young Lawrence, the second to the youngest in a family of eight children, grew up on a small farm near Strasburg, North Dakota. His parents had settled there after fleeing Alscace-Lorraine in 1878, when the Prussians invaded France. At a very early age he bagan to pick out tunes by ear on the family parlor organ, a predecessor of the modern electric organ he now features regularly as an intregral part of his orchestra. While still a youngest, Welk also learned to play an old push button accordion well enough to earn money playing for local parties and dances. The accordion, of course, has since before the world famous Welk trademark.

Today, Lawrence Welk and His Champage Music is probably the hottest dance band property in the record business. His records sell to the point that, with each new release, the number of advance pressings must be stepped up to meet the ever increasing demand. Here's a band leader who knows what hte public wants.

"The Lawrence Welk Show" is telecast weekly, sponsored by the DODGE dealers of America.

This CORAL Long Play Microgroove Unbreakable Record can be played only on 33 1/3 RPM instruments. For maximum protection, it should be kept in this protective envelope, away from heat.

ULTRA HIGH FIDELITY
RECORDING

During a golf game I played recently with Randy Wood, President of Dot Records, the conversation inevitably got around to music and, just as inevitably, to hit records. It occurred to both of us that some of the greatest songs in the past ten or fifteen years had been recorded by girl singers. We were able to recall at least a dozen of these, all done by famous female vocalists, which had sold in the neighborhood of a million records.

Along about the ninth hole, an idea began to take shape. We felt sure that each of these fine melodies could stand on its own merits in an instrumental version. By the eighteenth hole, the album was pretty well along in the planning stage. We decided to use a big band, get the finest arrangers available, and give these beautiful songs the rich, lush treatment they obviously merit.

Here are the twelve songs which constitute the "GOLDEN MILLIONS." We think you will agree that they richly deserve the designation.

- LAWRENCE WELK

1. In 1949, Patty Andrews stepped out of the famous Sister Act long enough to do a solo on the song, "I Can Dream, Can't I," and its success rivalled that of the trio's great hits.

2. A little girl with a big voice, Teresa Brewer made it big in 1953 with "Till I Waltz With You."

3. The score of the Broadway musical, "Pajama Game" in 1954, contained a memorable ballad - "Hey There," and Rosemary Clooney did a memorable job on this song.

4. Gogi Grant took a lovely waltz, "Suddenly There's A Valley," gave it her own special treatment, and rang the bell to the tune of a million records.

5. Pretty Kitty Kallen had a big winner in 1954 with "Little Things Mean A Lot."

6. "Why Don't You Believe Me" was one of the first and best of Joni James' many hits.

7. The distinctive voice of Julie London did wonders for "Cry Me A River" in 1956.

8. One of the sentimental ballads that Patti Page does so well was her big record of 1952. "I Went To You Wedding."

9. This combination of a great voice and a great song just couldn't miss - Jo Stafford and "You Belong To Me."

10. Margaret Whiting made history back in the late 40's with "A Tree In The Meadow."

11. Another song with a great emotional appeal was one of the hits of 1954. The song was "Let Me Go, Lover," and Joan Weber's record made the golden circle.

12. To complete the "Golden Million" we bring you a song recorded by the charming television actress, Connie Stevens - "Sixteen Reasons."

YOUNG WORLD Lawrence Welk

Today in politics, in business, and certainly in music, we are living in a "Young World." Our orchestra actually invaded this exciting "Young World" with the release of such popular albums as "Moon River," "Calcutta," "Last Date," and "Yellow Bird" offering a new and distinctive sound created by harpsichord, strings and a rhythm.

While our band has a well-founded reputation for its appeal to a more mature audience, we have always had an eye and ear open for music and talent with the flavor of youth. Our "Top Tunes and New Talent" TV show of a few years ago proved a rich source of youthful musicians. We have had the good fortune to introduce to the entertainment world such outstanding youngsters as the Lennon Sisters and a sensational dance team, Barbara Boylan and Bobby Burgess. A brilliant teenage singer and actress, Roberta Shore (a Dot recording artist) is a frequent guest on our weekly TV show.

The popularity of the tunes on this album and of the singers identified with them (Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson, Connie Francis, etc.) emphasized the fertile field in our business for youthful performers. We are constantly on the lookout for such talent and the hours spent listening to the audition tapes is made worthwhile with the discovery of just one promising entertainer.

We invite you to listen and spend a little time in our "Young World." We feel confident you will enjoy it regardless of your age.

Lawrence Welk

In keeping with the youthful tone of the selections, this album has been recorded by a brand new technique on 35mm film, giving greater fidelity of sound, eliminating surface noise and cutting down annoying background "hiss."

Here is a glistening showcase of Welk-launched talent, some still part of his organization, others having moved on to unprecedented success and popularity on their own.

In A Lawrence Welk Showcase, we hear Pete Fountain's fabulous clarinet interpretations of When My Baby Smiles At Me and the Gershwin classic Summertine; Dick Kesner and his magic Stradivarius in exciting arrangements of Schubert's Serenade and Londonderry Air ("Danny Boy") ; "Big" Tiny Little, master of the honky tonk piano, playing a rousing version of Yes Sir, That's My Baby and Peg O' My Heart. We hear a lilting rendition of What Is This Thing Called Love, sung by former champagne lady Alice Lon; the lovely Lennon sisters singing You Always Hurt The One You Love; Myron Floren's wonderful accordion interpretation of Over The Waves Waltz; Jerry Burke's organ styling of Kiss Me Again; and the entire Welk orchestra playing Whispering and Alexander's Ragtime Band.

A Lawrence Welk Showcase is not only great entertainment, it represents a colorful cross-section of American popular music today.

The Lennon Sisters - Goodnight Sweetheart

THE LENNON SISTERS

GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART

THE LENNON SISTERS

The Lennon Sisters first appeared on the Lawrence Welk Show on Christmas Eve, 1955, and have proven to beo ne of the most beautiful musical gifts ever presented to America's music lovers. Giftwrapped with beauty, their sparkling way with a song lit up the festive show like a treeful of Christmas lights. That master discoverer of talent, Lawrence Welk, had done it again, and the viewers' reaction in a flood of fan mail confirmed his choice. They were signed and became a part of the unique fild of family entertainment that is the "Lawrence Welk" Show.

The Lennon Sisters are unique in their own right though.
