This blog was created so I could showcase my vast collection of Lawrence Welk albums. From vinyl to cassette to cd, I want to show everyone what hard work and determination can yield when searching for out of print material! This blog is meant solely to showcase my collection, and to preserve the images and information on the album covers themselves. Music downloads will not be offered here.

This album is admittedly a very ambitous and challenging project. It would obviously be impossible to do full justice to 200 years of American music in two albums and our choices represent extensive research, hours of discussion (sometimes quite heated) within our production staff, and occasional rejections, regretfully made.
Anyone familiar with our TV show must know how strongly I feel about our wonderful country, and how unthinkable it would be to let such a historical milestone as our nation's Bicentennial go by without a very special salute from our Musical Family. Early in 1976 we are presenting two consecutive TV shows, based on this album.
For ever a year I have been wracking my brain, trying to find a suitable Birthday tribute to America. It was my own son, Larry Welk, Jr. who finally came to my rescue. It was his idea to record a double album, featuring highlights of our musical history. Larry is a top executive of Ranwood Records, so, after 50 years in music I find myself, in a sense, working for my son!
In the past few years I have tried to be partially retired. Still, our weekly TV show is practically a full time job, and keeps me occupied much of the time. In spite of a very busy schedule, I was so enthused about this album that I insisted on being present for all the recording sessions. Therefore I speak from first-hand knowledge when I say I'm convinced that this collection of songs will prove to be a memorable tribute to the country we love.
We have attempted to include some songs of historical significance, some which are typical of various musical eras, and others which have achieved a certain immortality, having stood the test of time.
I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone connected with this album, with a special "that you" to George Cates for his tireless efforts and his masterful job of putting it all together. Also, my compliments to George, Bob Ballard, Curt Ramsey and Joe Rizzo for their outstanding arrangements.
