Those three sweethearts of the Lawrence Welk Show, Peggy, Kathy and Janet Lennon, have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to work with various kinds of material, applying their natural harmony and vocal blend to all sorts of songs. This is especially fitting for a program that appeals to such a wide audience (estimated weekly viewers average 30,000,000) as the mail they receive amply attests.

Recently, though, a new note has crept into the letters that pour in in response to each program. More and more listeners have indicated an interest in hearing the Lennon Sisters sing some of the teen-aged hits that have been so popular in this decade. This movement has been intensified, perhaps, by the recent British invasion from which we are endeavoring to recover, and you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to find the song in this album which undeniably reflects that particular bombardment of The Beat!

To answer this demand, the Lennon Sisters present herein a dozen songs, every one of which has enjoyed the signal honor of being the Number One Song in the United States at some time between the beginning of 1960 and the present time. There are all kinds of songs here, some pretty ballads, some medium-tempos, some out-and-out rock in origin. With the masterful help of Harry Geller, who adapted these poll-winners for the girls, they've been given that special Lennon twist which makes them more than palatable for all tastes and all ages of listeners. One thing has been carefully preserved : that special ingredient, that unique quality inherent in these songs that gave them the impetus to become "#1 Hits of The 1960's."
