LAWRENCE WELK PRESENTS
THE LENNON SISTERS SINGING THE
BEST-LOVED CATHOLIC HYMNS

The Lennon Sisters believe in living their faith. Because of this, they sing the hymns in this album with the love, devotion, tenderness and humility which can only be found in the true believer. The first side is devoted primarily to hymns for special occasions. For the second side, they sing the hymns which might be sung at any regular mass, in the usual order. In each is to be found the true spirit of believing.

To me, these lovely young ladies represent the ideal youth of America. Their fresh beauty, quick smiles, boundless energy and fine capacity for wholesome fun are a delight to behold. Each time I am invited into their home for a Sunday afternoon, I take away a feeling of being just a little bit better for having known them. (Also, I usually take away a charlie-horse from overdoing it in one of their family softball games. They make me feel a little younger than my muscles insist I am.)

During my years on television, I have been privileged to present many fine performers. No group or soloist has been better received (nor more deserrving) than the Lennon Sisters. They are real troupers. Invariably they are prepared with their numbers and are cooperative in every way. As a result, they have grown bigger than any of our other presentations. The volume of their fan mail indicates that, in the minds of millions, they have become a symbol of family unity and American living. A great deal of this mail contains requests for the girls to sing religious songs. It is because of this that the album has come about. I think it is a wonderful way of answering these many requests.

These hymns were actually recorded in the choir lofts of the St. Paul and St. Gregory Catholic Churches in Los Angeles, though it was in the parish of St. Mark's Church in Venice, Los Angeles that they sang their first hymns. The organ accompaniment was provided by Anthony Joseph Newman, a brilliant young musician who recently left to begin a five-year scholarship at the Paris Conservatory.

I have often been grateful to my son for bringing the girls to my attention back in 1955. Working with them has been a rewarding experience. I am delighted to share it with you.
