"All of the wonderful things that have happened to me in my lifetime more than justify my strong belief in our American system, and my faith in our country's great future - the future of a beautiful community and a wonderful country which has given me so much morethan Iever dreamed of achieving."

With those feelings toward America, it's not surprising that Lawrence Welk has readily agreed to join with the United States Navy and lend his name and his talent to this radio series.

The Lawrence Welk Show comes your way direct from Hollywood as a public service of the Navy and your local Navy Recruiter. Each fifteen minute program brings to your listeners some of America's favorite music - the "Champagne Music" of the Lawrence Welk orchestra. Along with the very best in musical entertainment each program includes a brief message reminding your listeners of theopportunities the Navy is offering young people today.

We hope that you and your listeners enjoy the Lawrence Welk Show as much as we in the Navy are enjoying our association with America's favorite music maker ....Lawrence Welk.

A popular favorite since he began his broadcasting career more than 40 years ago, Lawrence Welk turnsto the Broadway stage for most of the music offered in this album. The familiar songs of Richard Rodgers and Hammerstein account for four of the selections. In addition to "You'll Never Walk Alone," from "Carousel" Lawrence Welk and his Champagne Music Makers perform "People Will Say We're in Love" from "Oklahoma," "Getting To Know YOu" from "TheKing and I" and the title song of "The Sound of Music." Other songs from Broadway in this collection are "Where or When" from Rodgers and Hart's "Babes in Arms," "September Song" from Knickerbocker Holiday" by Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson, and "People," from the Bob Merrill-Jule Styne "Funny Girl," which has been transformed into a contemporary standard by Barbra Streisand, who is repeating her portrayal of the late Fannie Brice in the film version of the show. Completing the album are three more favorites: "Little Things Mean a Lot," and two film songs: "To Each His Own" and "Be My Love." All the tunes receive the patented Lawrence Welk treatment, which has whisked him from a Yankton, S.D. radio broadcast in 1925 to his lifetime contract at the world famous Hollywood Paladium and his long-run weekly ABC-TV program.

EVERYBODY likes the scintillating rhythms of Lawrence Welk and His Champagne Music. And whether it's music for dancing or just easy listening, that sparkling beat is as contagious as the smile of the Maestro himself.

Seen and heard by millions from coast to coast every Saturday night, Welk's orchestra is as popular with the older folks as it is with the teenagers. His music packs them in by the thousands from hundreds of miles around at Ocean Park, California's famous Aragon Ball Room where the band has been playing since 1951. Some people even come to the dances in wheelchairs, and as one of them exclaimed, "It's just what the doctor ordered!"

A recent issue of TV Guide Magazine says that Welk's music appeals to the most important member of the family - Mother. And that when Mom is happy the whole family is happy. We might go a step further and say that it's music Mother likes best.

The Lawrence Welk story is not one of an overnight success. Although he has been a name band leader since 1938, the sparkle has come about somewhat gradually. Young Lawrence, the second to the youngest in a family of eight children, grew up on a small farm near Strasburg, North Dakota. His parents had settled there after fleeing Alscace-Lorraine in 1878, when the Prussians invaded France. At a very early age he bagan to pick out tunes by ear on the family parlor organ, a predecessor of the modern electric organ he now features regularly as an intregral part of his orchestra. While still a youngest, Welk also learned to play an old push button accordion well enough to earn money playing for local parties and dances. The accordion, of course, has since before the world famous Welk trademark.

Today, Lawrence Welk and His Champage Music is probably the hottest dance band property in the record business. His records sell to the point that, with each new release, the number of advance pressings must be stepped up to meet the ever increasing demand. Here's a band leader who knows what hte public wants.

"The Lawrence Welk Show" is telecast weekly, sponsored by the DODGE dealers of America.

This CORAL Long Play Microgroove Unbreakable Record can be played only on 33 1/3 RPM instruments. For maximum protection, it should be kept in this protective envelope, away from heat.
