The budding of trees, the beginnings of life and a certain feeling in the air sets the mood for this album entitled Spring. The title song is not about the season that occurs from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice, but it is about the beginnings of life. It is a haunting song that tells the poignant story of the life of a girl named Spring, from the day of her birth to the finding of her true love. It is a most beautiful song and Clay Hart sings it with just the right touch.
Spring means a great deal to Clay Hart. It was his debut single for Metromedia Records and was an immediate success. It was the right material for Clay; his rich baritone voice is filled with the kind of emotion needed to interpret this lyric with understanding. This quality pervades all of Clay's singing and is certainly the most characteristic element in this album. The selections are all about life, both its happy and sad moments, and Clay gives every lyric its own individual credibility. From "My Woman's Good To Me" to "Laura (What's He Got)" to "Weakness In A Man" to Clay's own compositions "Child of the Wind" and "Give Me Your Love (All The TIme)," the mood breathes with the vital essences of life.
Clay Hart, who accompanies himself on either six or twelve string guitar, has been singing since he was a young boy. During his school years, Clay sang with a group called the Zumbyes, but he didn't actively pursue his career in the music business until after graduation. He began working in a recording studio in Tampa and sang in local clubs in the evenings. In his spare time he kept up with his song writing. After many months he was able to give up his job in the studio to pursue his singing career full time via more club and local television appearances, including the Ernie Lee Show. He went on to appear with such names as George Carlin, Julie London and Bobby Troupe and at such top clubs as the Diplomat Hotel in Miami and the Landmark Hotel in Sarasota. Most recently he has been seen frequently on The Lawrence Welk TV Show.
