This blog was created so I could showcase my vast collection of Lawrence Welk albums. From vinyl to cassette to cd, I want to show everyone what hard work and determination can yield when searching for out of print material! This blog is meant solely to showcase my collection, and to preserve the images and information on the album covers themselves. Music downloads will not be offered here.

THE LAWRENCE WELK CHOIR
This album represents one of the most star studded and delightful Christmas greetings ever recorded.
To wish you well, in their own very special way, are some of the most celebrated personalities in show business, performing a collection of your favorite Christmas songs.
Here are the vivacious McGuire Sisters, with their interpretations of the delightful Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, and the adorable Littlest Angel; Teresa Brewer, the popular "Miss Music," sings the charming I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus and Jingle Bell Rock; The Ames Brothers offer their interpretations of the immortal White Christmas, and the captivating WInter Wonderland; Dorothy Collins sings Mister Santa; the youthful, zestful Lennon Sisters wish you a lilting Merry Merry Christmas; Mel Torme sings The Christmas Song; Johnny Desmond delivers an unusal interpretation of Santo Natale; and lawrence Welk wraps the entire Yuletide package up quite neatly and beautifully with a collection of timeless carols.
Merry Christmas...from the stars.

Lennon Sisters
For the past 15 years the public has watched the Lennon Sisters grow up. Starting with their first television appearance on the Lawrence Welk Show in 1955 when Janet was 11, Kathy 12, Pegy 14 and Diane 16, the girls have grown to become wives and mothers and ever more accomplished performers. And the public's fondness for them has grown apace over the years as it watched the four sisters on television and in their many personal appearances and listened to their records.
The Lennon Sisters have always had a special knack for taking an old familiar song, or a current pop hit, and making it their own. They have made old songs new again and brought popular rock music to a wider audience.
Some of the songs receiving the Lennon treatment in the past have been "My Favorite Things," from the Broadway hit and film "Sound of Music;" Pete Seeger's "Where Have All The Flowers Gone;" and the Mamas and Papas' "California Dreaming."
This album continues in the successful Lennon style. The girls sing "ode to Billy Joe," Bobbie Gentry's enigmantic smash of a few years back; Frank and Nancy Sinatra's father and aughter duet, "Something' Stupid;" and Lenny Welch's current hit, "Breaking Up is Hard to Do," the title song. The perennial favorites "Fascination," "Sunny," and "Tammy" are here too, transformed by the Lennon Sisters.
The sound and style that has made the Lennon Sisters loved across the country is here again. Here is a mixture of old and new songs the Lennon Sisters have made their own just for you.

Oh my luve is like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June;
Oh my luve is like the melodie,
That's sweetly played in tune."
- Robert Burns.
"Champagne And Roses" is a particularly apt title for a Lawrence Welk album. Wine, roses and song have been a sure-fire recipe for romance since the beginning of love, and the sentimental sweetness and lightly effervescent quality of Welk's music in this package, provides perfect blendship of all three ingredients.
One side is devoted to the bubbly brew - "Blue Champagne," "Champagne Blues," "
Champagne Music," etc. - while the other side features six "rose" songs including such richly nostalgic items as "Bouquet Of Roses," "Moonlight and Roses," and "Room Full of Roses."
Although the selections run a wide range of musical moods, each tune is characterized by a steady, clearly defined dance beat, the tempo that has made Welk one of the country's outstanding ballroom attractions more than 25 years ago and catapulted him to far greater fame on TV in the fifties.
In spit of his "Champagne Music" title, Welk himself is a "beer and pretzels" man who made it the hard way. He grew up on a North Dakota farm with seven brothers and sisters and his Alsatian-born parents made music an integral part of the home. The future video star was playing the accordion at community dances by the time he was 13, and while in his early teens, became a full-fledged orchestra leader with a show on his own over radio station WNAX, Yankton, South Dakota.
Welk's friendly personality and danceable style quickly made him a favorite with
ballroom dancers throughout the Mid-West and Southern California and his popularity with the dip-and-glide set increased steadily over the years.
Nevertheless, when ABC-TV first put the Lawrence Welk show on the air, few if any could have forseen that the unassuming, moderate budget program would become the major surprise hit of the 1955-56 season.
In the beginning nobody like Welk but the people. In the face of phenomenal ratings, the critics predicted that the show was just a freak click which would pall on the public as soon as the novelty wore off.
Today, however, its ratings are brighter than ever, (so high in fact, that veteran video star Sid Caesar-in a competitive time slot-quit NBC entirely in 1957) and Welk's original weekly hour show on Saturday nights has been supplemented with a Monday night telecast.
The critics finally came around too, and even the staid New York Times TV critic Jack Gould recently confessed in print, that the Welk show inspires him to make like a living-room Fred Astaire.
Welk himself attributes his TV success to the fact that "people still want to dance," and his band plays the kind of music that lets them do just that in the privacy of their own parlor. More objective observers, though, believe that the real secret of Lawrence Welk's remarkably durable popularity on television is the relaxed showmanship and likeable "just folks" charm of the man himself.
Whether it's the man, his music, or a combination of both, the results are as listenable as they are danceable. So roll up the carpets or just sit back and listen, while Lawrence Welk and his Orchestra provide a musical background of "Champagne and Roses."

THE LENNON SISTERS' FAVORITES
For those charming Lennon Sisters, who grace the Lawrence Welk TV Show so delightfully, this album represents something special. To begin with, all the selections are those which the girls find most requested by their audiences in personal appearances. To substantiate the title, which also claims these songs as their own favorites, one has only to listen to the sincerity and enthusiasm which Peggy, Kathy and Janet bring to their performance. Seldom have they been heard to such good advantage, and nowhere has their uncanny ability to phrase as one person been more abundantly demonstrated. This special awareness of each other is evident in all the varied types of songs offered here - from the rhythmic variations (their own) of "BEI MIR BIST DU SCHOEN" and "KISSES SWEETER THAN WINE," to the tender beauty of "MY ROSARY" and "GREENSLEEVES." A special treat for lovers of barbershop is contained in "KENTUCKY BABE," and a very moving "AVE MARIA," sung at first a cappela in Latin, with a narration by Janet, closes a well-rounded program. Ably arranged and conducted by Jimmie Haskell, the orchestra complements the girls to perfection, never intruding or distracting from their sweet young harmonies. It's a safe bet that THE LENNON SISTERS' FAVORITES will prove to be yours, too.

For the past two and a half years Lawrence Welk has been presenting on his two weekly TV shows the young and lovely Lennon Sisters. Their refreshing young voices, natural blend, untutored simplicity, and their unaffected charm have endeared them to millions of viewers in this short time.
In this album, Lawrence Welk presents them at their delightful best, singing some of the songs that have contributed to their universal popularity.
Among the selections performed by these remarkable youngsters are such folk ballads as "Scarlet Ribbons," "Greensleeves," and "I Remember Mama," all of which elicited so many requests for repeat performances that it seemed advisable to put them on record, to be heard again and again.
For variety, and to illustrate the versatility and adaptability of these young ladies, they are heard also in such standards as "Too Marvelous For Words" and "Have You Ever Been Lonely," joined in the latter by one of their TV cohorts, the young and personable Larry Dean.
Another of the famous Welk crew, the sensational New Orleans clarinet artist, Pete Fountain, lends some Dixieland atmosphere to the girls' rendition of "Mr. Clarinet Man."
Without "gimmicks" or vocal tricks," the Lennons make their impetus on the record field like a breath of fresh, pure air.
Let's meet the girls individually, according to age. Dianne is the oldest, sings the lead and is featured as a soloist on the Welk shows. Peggy is next, has a delicate soprano voice and carries the high harmony parts. Kathy, third in order, has a wide vocal range and sings the low harmony. Janet, the youngest, talented and graceful far beyond her years, has captivated millions of TV viewers with her pixie face and sparkling eyes. She completes the quartet, and is also heard in solo spots.
Obviously, a brief biographical sketch can't describe the tremendous visual and aural appeal of this fabulous foursome. They must be heard and seen to be fully appreciated. It is hope that this album will provide, at least, the listening delight that can be found in the company of the Lennon Sisters.

Lawrence Welk's show, one of the most popular of all TV music programs, is a showcase for a wonderful variety of outstanding talent. One of the most appealing attractions on the show is the winsome beauty and delightful voice of Welk's "Champagne Lady", Alice Lon. In this album, you will hear a collection of Alice Lon's most beautiful vocal interpretations ... songs such as the poignant The Party's Over; the "My Fair Lady" hit, I Could Have Danced All Night; and a song that suggests a rather unusual combination, The Rock And Roll Waltz.
Alice Lon, who was first introduced as "Alice from Dallas", began singing, dancing, and playing the piano at the age of six. By the time she was ten, she was featured on her own radio show. Majoring in music in high school and junior college, she was a member of the famous riding and singing "Rangerettes."
Miss Lon became a regular attraction on TV after appearing on Don McNeill's "Breakfast Club" in Chicago. When she heard that Lawrence Welk was auditioning for a "Champagne Lady", she went to the Aragon Ballroom, began to sing, and ended the search for one of the most coveted spots on the program.
At home, Alice Lon is Mrs. Bob Waterman, a devoted wife and the mother of three boys.

In the television season of 1055-56, Lawrence Welk and his Orchestra swept handily to the top of the list, besting some mighty competition and demonstrating conclusively what many had forgotten: that good, tuneful music is still an irresistible attraction. For some time now, the orchestra has been one of the most favored dance groups in the country, providing a lilting, danceable beat, pretty melodies and clever arrangements, but not even the leader himself dreamed that his program would become one of the country's biggest. Yet, it has, simply by presenting first-class dance music in a light-hearted manner, something that has been hard to find lately, and something that is as welcome as springtime.
The Champagne Magic of Lawrence Welk has a flavor all its own, sweet and easily flowing, but with a bubble and sparkle that makes it doubly refreshing. There is even, in terms of wine, a certain dryness in the vintage, that makes for that peculiar sensation described as a tickling in the toes. To hear this music is to want to dance; who could ask for anything more?
The beginning of all this melodic fun was near Strasburg, North Dakota, where young Lawrence grew up, one of a family of four boys and four girls. His father was an accomplished performer on the accordion, a splendid instrument he had brought with him to America from Alsace-Lorraine, and often played for the family during the evenings. Young Lawrence began experimenting with the accordion, and by the time he was thirteen, he had learned to play well enough to help out at community dances and socials, especially at schools and churches. As a reward for his perseverance and industry, his family saved the money to buy him an accordion of his own, with the new piano keyboard. In delight, he studied even harder and practiced diligently.
A few years later, after he had left the farm, he formed his first orchestra, appearing at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Actually, for the first engagement, the only other member was a drummer, but later a saxophonist and pianst were added. The small group moved on to Yankton, where they began playing daily over the local radio station. As years passed, more and more instruments were added to the orchestra until it was a full-voiced aggregation. Lawrence realized that to succeed, the orchestra must have a personality of its own, and he began experimenting with varied groupings and voicings within the band, finally discovering the bouncing, effervescent effect that is so famous today. He tried this quality out a few times, and it was so well received that he built the whole orchestra around it, and, because of its light, airy quality, named it "champagne music."
Within a very short time, the name of Lawrence Welk was well known throughout the country, but he remained in the mid-west for several years before striking out to test his orchestra against the already-famous bands in the country. But when he did, success came quickly and from all sides. He appeared with his group on all the major radio networks, on records, on radio transcriptions, in a variety of movie shorts, and of course in clubs and dance halls from coast to coast. Then came television, and even greater fame, for with his thoroughly entertaining and relaxing program, he appeared regularly on the home screens of thousands of fans.
For his debut on Epic Records, which presents the "champagne music" for the first time in the richness of Radical Sound, Lawrence Welk has selected some of his most-requested numbers to show off the quality and talents of his fine group. Some of them are old favorites, some are novelty numbers, and some are famous for their association with Lawrence Welk, but all of them maintain the firm, noticable beat of his danceable music, and all ofthem keep the melody well to the fore, for thelistening as well as dancing pleasure of his audiences. In this program, Walter Bloom is heard singing Linger Awhile and My Donna Lee, while Jayne Walton and Parnell Grina sing Daddy's Lullaby. Miss Walton returns to sing One-Two-Three-Kick, and One Look at YOu is sung by Bob Pace. All the way through this delightful sampler, the performances, music and arrangements are presented to bring into your own home-whenever you wish-the Champagne Magic of Lawrence Welk.
