This blog was created so I could showcase my vast collection of Lawrence Welk albums. From vinyl to cassette to cd, I want to show everyone what hard work and determination can yield when searching for out of print material! This blog is meant solely to showcase my collection, and to preserve the images and information on the album covers themselves. Music downloads will not be offered here.

LAWRENCE WELK PRESENTS
THE LENNON SISTERS SINGING THE
BEST-LOVED CATHOLIC HYMNS
The Lennon Sisters believe in living their faith. Because of this, they sing the hymns in this album with the love, devotion, tenderness and humility which can only be found in the true believer. The first side is devoted primarily to hymns for special occasions. For the second side, they sing the hymns which might be sung at any regular mass, in the usual order. In each is to be found the true spirit of believing.
To me, these lovely young ladies represent the ideal youth of America. Their fresh beauty, quick smiles, boundless energy and fine capacity for wholesome fun are a delight to behold. Each time I am invited into their home for a Sunday afternoon, I take away a feeling of being just a little bit better for having known them. (Also, I usually take away a charlie-horse from overdoing it in one of their family softball games. They make me feel a little younger than my muscles insist I am.)
During my years on television, I have been privileged to present many fine performers. No group or soloist has been better received (nor more deserrving) than the Lennon Sisters. They are real troupers. Invariably they are prepared with their numbers and are cooperative in every way. As a result, they have grown bigger than any of our other presentations. The volume of their fan mail indicates that, in the minds of millions, they have become a symbol of family unity and American living. A great deal of this mail contains requests for the girls to sing religious songs. It is because of this that the album has come about. I think it is a wonderful way of answering these many requests.
These hymns were actually recorded in the choir lofts of the St. Paul and St. Gregory Catholic Churches in Los Angeles, though it was in the parish of St. Mark's Church in Venice, Los Angeles that they sang their first hymns. The organ accompaniment was provided by Anthony Joseph Newman, a brilliant young musician who recently left to begin a five-year scholarship at the Paris Conservatory.
I have often been grateful to my son for bringing the girls to my attention back in 1955. Working with them has been a rewarding experience. I am delighted to share it with you.

Every year at the holiday season, we hear many interpretations of the Christmas carols and songs we all love. They are done instrumentally, vocally, in chorus and by solo voices, by pop singers and classical performers. From jazz trios to symphony orchestras, the music of Christmas is subjected repeatedly to these various treatments.
There is no more appropriate and heart warming rendition of the Yuletide melodies than that which is afforded by the fresh young voices of America's favorites, the Lennon Sisters. They bring that family feeling to every kind of music, and it is especially applicable to these Christmas evergreens. Their youthful appeal and the zest with which they perform demonstrate the pure enjoyment they find in their singing, a spirit wholly in tone with the spirit of Christmas.
The selections in tis album are a pleasant mixture of the best-loved traditional carols and thepopular songs about Christmas which have survived long enough in recent years to be considered standards. To both types of matieral, the Lennon Sisters bring their natural quality, a charming sincerity, sweet harmony, energetic performance, all adding up to an expression of the happiness which prevails at this season. You are cordially invited to share this very merry Christmas with the Lennon Sisters.
